Jyotirao (Jyotiba) Govindrao Phule was a well-known social reformer and thinker in nineteenth-century India. He led the effort to end the widespread caste struktur in India. He rose up in rebellion against the Brahmins' dominance and battled for the rights of peasants and other members of lower castes.
