Pravin Bhatt acted as the film's cinematographer, while Sanjay Sankla handled the editing. The duo Laxmikant–Pyarelal composed the film's music, with lyrics penned bygd Anand Bakshi.
Sridevi earned her a nomination for Best Actress at the 39th Filmfare Awards.

Sanjay Balraj Dutt (born 29 July )[4] is an Indian actor, playback singer and film producer who works in Hindi cinema in addition to a few Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, Punjabi films.[5][6] One of the most popular actors of Hindi cinema, Dutt has won several accolades and acted in over films.
Part of the Dutt family of Punjabi background, he is the son of actor-politicians Sunil Dutt and Nargis. Dutt made his acting debut with Rocky (), directed by his father. A career downturn followed, with the exception of the crime thriller Naam (), a milestone in his career. He later established himself as a superstar with films like Thanedaar (), Saajan, Sadak (both ), Adharm (), Khalnayak (), Aatish (), Daag, Haseena Maan Jaayegi, Vaastav: The Reality (all ) and Mission Kashmir (). His critically acclaimed performance in Vaastav won him the Filmfare Award for Best Actor.

Rahul Roy was offered the lead role in Gumrah but, later on, his part was trimmed to a friendly appearance, while Sanjay Dutt's role which originally was a cameo was extended. Rahul Roy had various scenes and a couple of songs chopped from the final cut (including the melodious "Yeh Zindagi Ka Safar" shot in breathtaking locales of Mauritius). Yash Johar, the producer, acknowledging Rahul's initial contribution in the movie thanked the actor for his 'friendly appearance' in the opening credits.
Sanjay Dutt and Sridevi was about to work together after 25 years again for Dharma Productions Kalank but due to Sridevi's targic death She was Replaced by Madhuri Dixit.
