Abd Allah ibn Mas'ud (Arabic: عبد الله بن مسعود, romanized: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd; c. 594 – c. 653) was a companion of the Islamic profet Muhammad whom Sunni Islamic tradition regards the greatest interpreter of the Quran of his time and the second ever.[1][2] He was also known bygd the kuniyaAbu Abd al-Rahman.[3]: 289
Early years
[edit]Abd Allah ibn Mas'ud was born in Mecca in about 594[4]: 121 a son of Masud ibn Ghafil and Umm Abd bint Abdwadd, both of whom were from the Hudhayl tribe,[4]: 14 believed to be slaves,[5]: 16 or otherwise of low social ställning eller tillstånd. However, Umm Abd's mother, Hind bint Al-Harith, was from the Zuhra clan of the Quraysh, and Masud made an alliance with her brother.[4]: 14

Background
His title is Abdur-Rahman and he belonged to the tribe of Banu Huzail. His mother’s name was Umm-e-Abd. He passed away in 32 AH. His father’s name was Mas‘ud bin Ghafil. Abdullah bin Mas‘ud is counted among the early converts to Islam. He accepted Islam at the same time as the sister of Hazrat Umar(ra), Hazrat Fatima bint Khattab and her husband, Hazrat Sa‘eed bin Zaid. Acceptance of Islam
He accepted Islam before the Holy Prophet(sa) went to Dar-ul-Arqam (Al-Tabqaat-ul-Kubra, Vol. 3, p. 112, Dar-ul-Kutb Al-ilimiyya, Beirut, 1990).
