  • Françoise&#;s beautiful vibrant paintings were first introduced to me by Jorge. She was exhibiting in Barcelona and we were there on holiday so we stopped in to see her work. inom was träffad immediately bygd the bright colors and thick textures. Born in Marseille, in the South of France, Françoise has lived in Paris for many years now. Unfortunately my high school French fryst vatten now pretty obsolete so she kindly answered the interview questions in English, her second language. Using a knife instead of a paintbrush, Françoise paints faces on a large scale, using energetic motions that transfer to her work. Her main goal for her artwork fryst vatten that it brings happiness to those who view it. Works for me! 

    LO: Tell us a bit about your background as an artist in many different capacities which eventually led you to your current career as a painter. What are you working on now?

    &#; all of that classical imagery of South France is very alive as an experience inside of me. Maybe it is wht led me to the use of fluorescent colors in my paintings.

    &#; It&#;s known that the childhood is one of the most important periods of an artist&#;s life. When you close your eyes and think about those years, what colors and what kind of memories do you see? Can you tell us about your father and how he inspired you?

    Thinking of my childhood is definitly not my favorite thing. With an over protected crippled sister I often felt lonesome, not to say abandonned! Of course I also had nice times, like summer in Cavalaire where we lived on the Mediteranéan side, building huts and cabins and hunting butterflies. I have vivid images of colors, of brightness. Yellow, sunshine, blue, heat, cicadas, pin smell, light&#; all of that classical imagery of South France is very alive as an experience inside of me. Maybe it is what led me to the use of fluoresc

    The colors and fast, obstreperous rhythm of Francoise Nielly’s paintings are inspired by urban life. She thrives in dynamic and edgy environments, drawing from their energy for her work. The synergy of colors, the fusion of people in a hurry amid the haunting juxtaposition of light and dark, public and private, one’s self and the others around, penetrates her works. Nielly relishes extremes: contrasts in race, lifestyle and personality. She is continually inspired by observing different types of people thriving together.

    Nielly works by deconstructing the subjects of her portraits instinctively, translating her reaction to a face into a series of quick, primal, even violent strokes of the knife. Nielly relishes wild fluorescent colors, working quickly with a palette knife to achieve an unstudied effect. She works in the vibrant but traditional medium of oil, which allows her to achieve brazen tones and fiery contrasts. For her, painting is an “intense experience,
