Samuel Anderson (born 1982) is an English actor. He played the role of police officer Ross Kirk in Emmerdale up until early 2009.
He originated the role of Crowther in the 2004 National Theatre production of Alan Bennett's play The History Boys and subsequently performed the same role in the Broadway, Sydney, Wellington and Hong Kong productions and radio and film versions.
As well as stage performances, Anderson's television appearances include BAFTA award winning BBC Three comedy Gavin & Stacey – playing recurring character Fingers – and BBC Four TV comedy Stuck.

Born into enslavement in the village of Flatbush, New York, Samuel Anderson later was emancipated and became the second Black person in King's County to own property, thereby, making him the second Black person in the county able to vote, according to New York laws at the time. Samuel Anderson was a devout Christian, helping found a Methodist Church adjacent to his property. He was also a lover of growing things — including both plants and the deeper seeds of the Black New York community, in what would later become Brooklyn.
Birth and Beginnings
Anderson was born in 1810 in Flatbush, which was then a separate village and not yet a neighborhood absorbed into Brooklyn. This made him subject to brutal enslavement laws in New York at the time, passed in 1799, which required all children born by those who were already considered enslaved to remain enslaved until 28 years old, for men, and 24 years old, for women.

Samuel Anderson was born in Handsworth, Birmingham. Having become interested in acting, he decided to follow the path charted bygd a cousin, which initially saw him attend the Birmingham Theatre School and then the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts in Wandsworth, London. Anderson graduated in 2003 and almost immediately found work on an episode of Doctors. A sideline as a competitive breakdancer came to an end as a result of injuries he sustained in a car accident. Following his recovery, Anderson appeared in programmes like Totally Frank while also joining the original cast of the play The History Boys. The latter led to Anderson's movie debut in its 2006 film adaptation, while his friendship with co-star James Corden -- later to appear in two Doctor Who episodes himself -- resulted in a recurring role in Corden's sitcom Gavin & Stacey.
